Closing your account & deleting your data
Your data is yours, and leaving should be as clean as joining. Here's how to close your account, what we erase, and what (little) we're required to keep.
Closing your account permanently deletes your company’s cap table and everything tied to it. It can’t be undone - so export anything you want to keep first.
Take your data first
Before you close, download your records. From the cap-table page, choose Export → Complete archive (.zip): one file holding every record and every document Tenacap has for your company - the cap table in our open schema, board approvals, 409As, tax records, signature requests and their signer evidence, sealed signature PDFs, uploaded and attached documents, the export you originally imported from - with a manifest that fingerprints each file and a coverage report that says what the database held next to what was written. See Export & open schema for what is in it and what each status means. Anything the archive marks NOT_IN_CUSTODY is a link to a file hosted somewhere else that we never held; fetch it from there. Closing deletes everything the archive contains, so build and download it first - today nothing asks you to confirm that you did, and no copy is sent to you afterwards.
How to close your account
You can close your own account at any time. As a workspace admin, go to Settings → Account, open the danger zone, and type DELETE to confirm. Because deleting a whole company’s cap table is irreversible, we ask you to confirm in capitals and we sign you out the moment it’s done. The erase runs immediately.
Prefer a person to handle it? Email security@tenacap.com from the email on your admin account and we’ll verify you own the account, build the complete archive for you if you have not, and run the closure - within 30 days of a verified request, usually much sooner.
What we erase
When we close your account, we permanently delete:
- Your cap table - every share class, stakeholder, security, option pool, SAFE/note, and the full transaction ledger.
- Your documents and signatures, valuations, board approvals, and tax records held in the app.
- Your workspace, its members, and pending invites.
- Your login - the account itself, sign-in sessions, and any connected Google sign-in - for anyone whose only workspace was yours.
- Your entry on our waitlist, if one remained.
What we keep, and why
We keep only the minimal records the law requires us to, and only for as long as it requires - for example, records we’re obligated to retain for tax or financial-audit purposes. Separately, our internal security audit log retains a record that actions occurred (an opaque account identifier and a timestamp - no names, emails, tax IDs, or financial figures), which protects every customer by making the system tamper-evident. We do not keep your cap table, documents, or personal profile data beyond the deletion above.
Backups
Once deleted, your data is gone from the live system immediately. Encrypted, access-controlled database backups exist for disaster recovery and are cycled out on a rolling basis - any residual copy of your data ages out of those backups within about 30 days, after which no copy remains.
On someone else’s cap table?
If you’re an employee or investor who appears on a company’s cap table (rather than owning the account), that company controls those records. Ask them to update or remove your information, or email security@tenacap.com and we’ll route your request to the right place. For more on how we protect data while it’s with us, see Trust & security.
